Purpose of Job

This role defines Service Provider requirements and construction Safety Standards that must be implemented on projects in Sasol. The role implements, manages and maintains internal governance, assurance and risk oversight to enable the safe and responsible implementation of the construction SHE execution model towards zero harm and sustainability through a pro-active Sasol SHE framework and risk-based approach within the SACPCMP requirements. The role follows the Construction SHE Execution model for all business processes, as required by Sasol Group SHE. The role is also responsible for defining and implementing definitive assurance requirements.

Key Accountabilities

• Drive and ensure that the H&S objectives are achieved in a consistent and dedicated manner;
• Manage all aspects related to the H&S outcomes of the project in terms of the SACPCMP and management structure model;
• Prepare and submit the necessary construction safety documentation to the authorities and facilitate/obtain Construction Work Permits;
• Prepare and facilitate the baseline risk assessment of the construction project, prepare and manage the implementation of the project H&S specifications;
• Evaluate, discuss, negotiate and approve the construction project health and safety plans/files, facilitate and manage all construction site handovers, statutory appointments and binding agreements;
• Participate in audits and ensure that critical activity anticipation processes are implemented and managed;
• Conduct incident and accident investigations where necessary and ensure closure of investigation reports in accordance with criteria;
• Identifying hazards and risks relevant to the construction project through regular and coordinated site inspections;
• Taking formalised action in the event of non-compliance by partners and contractors;
• Ensuring that the supervisory control process is implemented and communicated and supporting safety actions undertaken, ensuring that evidence is kept on record;
• Facilitating and ensuring that emergency drills are carried out on various projects, in accordance with the schedule;
• Guiding and leading team members or contractors, planning and meeting project management objectives in technical, professional and specialist areas of work;
• Ensuring that IMS inspections are carried out and updated, including the management and closure of observed deviations and ensuring that the conduct of service providers, clients, managers and team leaders is of a professional nature;
• Demonstrate influential relationships with Managers/Experts, peers and business leaders within the company, service providers on the HST implementation model/SACPCMP requirements and contractor management;
• Interact with commercial departments on HST issues, contracting strategies and scope confirmation as required;
• Promote and support a culture of safety, risk prevention, risk mitigation and corporate responsibility.

Formal Education

University Bachelors Degree in Safety Management
