The IFC is recruiting an Associate Investment Officer who will promote and coordinate IFC’s investment, upstream and advisory activities in IFC Mozambique cluster. The role requires close interaction at a high level with the private sector, government, and international development organizations, as well as key counterparts in the World Bank Group (WBG) to develop new business and support the structuring and negotiation of deals.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n

The position is based in Maputo and reports to the Country Manager \u2013 Mozambique, Madagascar, Seychelles, Comoros and eSwatini.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n

Duties and Accountabilities\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n
\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
\u2022\u00a0 Develop and implement, in consultation with the IFC Country Manager, an integrated investment, upstream, advisory and FCS strategy for IFC activities, including country priorities and business targets for key industry groups, and key engagements for IFC with a particular focus on high impact investment and advisory services projects in sectors such as infrastructure, agribusiness, SME development, manufacturing and services, as well as cross cutting issues such as investment climate, gender and climate.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
\u2022\u00a0 Work with investment, upstream and advisory teams to develop the pipeline of projects and provide support for investment, upstream and advisory project\u2019s preparation as well as portfolio management cases.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
\u2022\u00a0 Provide inputs on projects development and management to the Country Manager, Program Manager, Africa Fragility Initiative, program managers and technical team as needed.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
\u2022\u00a0 Assist the different project teams in coordinating missions, including managing relationships with key clients and stakeholders and to liaise for meetings.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
\u2022\u00a0 Identify opportunities to strengthen solutions offered to clients by involving other parts of WBG based on a good understanding of the products and project requirements of WBG. Participate in specific activities that may be necessary to develop and implement IFC 3.0 in country.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
\u2022\u00a0 Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, global and regional private businesses, banking and multilateral partners and government officials to develop investment opportunities in sectors with a high developmental impact.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
\u2022\u00a0 In consultation with the program managers, conduct engagements with clients, stakeholders, and donors Liaise with client and donor partners, and coordination of technical inputs in project design and implementation.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
\u2022\u00a0 Support the Country Manager in the preparation of briefs for high level visiting missions or meeting such as Spring or Annual Meetings<\/span><\/div>\n
\u2022\u00a0 Support the region and industry team in the preparation of strategy documents, including IFC country strategy, WBG\u2019s SCD, CPF, CCDR or IFC Deep Dive.<\/span><\/div>\n
\u2022\u00a0 Support the AFI team and other programs in sharing data and information on market trends, potentials, challenges and opportunities for doing business in the Mozambique cluster.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
\u2022\u00a0 Provide guidance and on-ground support in monitoring the progress and impact of projects through regular project monitoring and evaluation of performance.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
\u2022\u00a0 Accountability for preparation of missions in Mozambique and eSwatini. Accountability for preparation\/coordination of any briefing material for these countries.<\/span><\/div>\n
\u2022\u00a0 Represent and provide visibility for IFC through organizing\/participating in high profile events (senior level visits, interviews, seminars and conferences).\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
\u2022\u00a0 Develop market knowledge to ensure that IFC is working with the right sponsors.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
\u2022\u00a0 Take accountability for client selection, ensure the integrity of potential clients, develop and maintain relationships with these companies and identify business opportunities considering IFC\u2019s strategy, priorities and products.<\/span><\/div>\n

Selection Criteria<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\u2022\u00a0 A master\u2019s degree in economics\/ finance\/ business management is preferred.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
\u2022\u00a0 A minimum of 5 – 8 years of relevant experience in investment\/commercial banking, public-private partnerships, private sector development in DFI and\/or management\/business consulting.<\/span><\/div>\n
\u2022\u00a0 Experience and\/or a strong interest in the Africa region is required, and experience in Mozambique would be an advantage.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
\u2022\u00a0 Ability to assess the viability of business opportunities and potential risks based on strong analytical skills.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
\u2022\u00a0 Strong analytical, finance, financial modeling, credit, and transaction structuring skills is an advantage.<\/span><\/div>\n
\u2022\u00a0 Good understanding of IFC\u2019s business lines \u2013 Investment, Upstream and Advisory\u2013 their range of products and instruments, how they complement each other, and how they may be leveraged to match the long-term needs of clients and open new markets.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
\u2022\u00a0 Ability to represent IFC externally and to develop and manage relationships with government, media, donors, and other stakeholders.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
\u2022\u00a0 A successful track record in identifying, structuring and working externally with sponsors and internally with sector staff to create bankable investment potential with advisory components.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
\u2022\u00a0 A team player with outstanding people management skills, strong influencing skills and ability to work with colleagues from different teams not reporting directly to this position, to achieve objectives while maintaining strong client service orientation.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
\u2022\u00a0 Strong analytical and presentation skills, working with data using standard office software Excel, Word, PowerPoint.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
\u2022\u00a0 Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Portuguese are required.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n
